Through a range of&nbsp;<strong>housing, health, and employment programs<\/strong>, Blue Door helps individuals and families move from&nbsp;<strong>crisis to stability and, ultimately, long-term independence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karen emphasized that Blue Door\u2019s work is grounded in&nbsp;<strong>dignity, safety, and inclusion<\/strong>, with a commitment to ensuring that&nbsp;<strong>no one in the community is left behind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Growing Need in Dangerous Winter Conditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The clients Blue Door serves come from&nbsp;<strong>all walks of life<\/strong>\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>families<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>single adults<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>seniors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>youth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>couples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On any given night,&nbsp;<strong>around 360 people<\/strong>&nbsp;are accessing Blue Door\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karen noted that the need becomes especially urgent during the\u00a0<strong>winter months<\/strong>, when freezing temperatures can turn homelessness into a\u00a0<strong>life-threatening emergency<\/strong>. As temperatures drop well below zero, Blue Door and other service providers in the region work to\u00a0<strong>open extra spots<\/strong>\u00a0and ensure that\u00a0<strong>no one is turned away<\/strong>\u00a0from a safe, warm bed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0<strong>Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY)<\/strong>\u00a0walk is one of Blue Door\u2019s\u00a0<strong>largest annual fundraisers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Coldest Night of the Year Walk in Richmond Hill<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong>Coldest Night of the Year<\/strong>&nbsp;is a&nbsp;<strong>national winter walk<\/strong>&nbsp;that raises funds and awareness for people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in communities across Canada. Blue Door leads the Richmond Hill event, and&nbsp;<strong>every dollar raised locally stays in the community<\/strong>, directly supporting people who rely on Blue Door\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants can choose from a&nbsp;<strong>2 km<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>5 km<\/strong>&nbsp;walk. The event also features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>warm meal<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Family-friendly activities<\/strong>, including a kids\u2019 zone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Photo spots<\/strong>\u00a0and community gathering areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year,&nbsp;<strong>over 200 participants<\/strong>&nbsp;joined the walk, and Blue Door is hoping to see even more community members come out this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karen stressed that for one evening, participants choose to&nbsp;<strong>walk in the cold<\/strong>&nbsp;to gain even a small sense of what many community members live through&nbsp;<strong>every single night<\/strong>. Beyond fundraising, the event is about&nbsp;<strong>community, compassion, and visibility<\/strong>\u2014ensuring people feel&nbsp;<strong>seen, supported, and cared for<\/strong>, not forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal, Impact, and How to Get Involved<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, Blue Door has set an ambitious fundraising goal of&nbsp;<strong>$150,000<\/strong>. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors such as&nbsp;<strong>Fairstone<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Interworld Paper<\/strong>, along with early supporters,&nbsp;<strong>about 80% of that goal has already been raised<\/strong>. The remaining funds will help Blue Door continue to provide&nbsp;<strong>safe, warm spaces and vital supports<\/strong>&nbsp;to hundreds of people each night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community members can&nbsp;<strong>participate, donate, or volunteer<\/strong>&nbsp;by visiting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CNOY.org\/RichmondHill<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Registration is&nbsp;<strong>free<\/strong>, and the online process to donate or sign up is&nbsp;<strong>simple, quick, and secure<\/strong>.
