Thousands of surgical masks and hundreds of litres of hand sanitizer were donated<\/p>\n

Electric bus company\u00a0BYD Canada donated thousands of surgical masks and hundreds of litres of hand sanitizer to Kevin’s Place youth shelter and the Town of Newmarket today.<\/p>\n

The Newmarket-based firm provided the shelter on Gorham Street and the town each with a gift of close to 5,000 masks and 260 bottles of sanitizer.<\/p>\n

The PPE donation to the town is intended for use in programs provided to the community, according to BYD, and was accepted by Newmarket Mayor John Taylor and CAO Jag Sharma.<\/p>\n

Deputy Premier, Health Minister and Newmarket-Aurora MPP Christine Elliott was on hand for the donations from BYD, which was represented by\u00a0Tiger Zhou, factory director, Nicholas He, business development director, and\u00a0Jennifer Jin, operation manager.<\/p>\n

Emmy Kelly, Blue Door’s acting CEO, and board directors Alex Cheng and Karen Al Massaad welcomed the donation to the homeless shelter.<\/p>\n

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is the world\u2019s leading electric vehicle company with\u00a0innovative technology for cars, buses, trucks, forklifts, and rail systems, including\u00a0SkyRail.<\/p>\n

BYD, which opened the first electric bus assembly facility in Canada last summer in Newmarket,\u00a0is dedicated to creating technology for solar electricity generation, energy storage to save that electricity, and battery-electric vehicles. BYD has 220,000 employees across the globe, including nearly 1,000 in North America.<\/p>\n
