It would be an understatement to say that the last two years have been challenging to people experiencing homelessness.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’ve experienced the perfect storm in the housing and homelessness sector with the most pressing needs being the rising cost of living, housing, and food insecurity.<\/p>\n

The reality is that housing is becoming less affordable and attainable for the general population, which has translated into a near impossible task of rehousing vulnerable and low-income individuals and families. The lack of affordable housing is likely contributing to the increasing number of people living in precarious housing and experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n

At Blue door, we’ve taken on these challenging times by continuing to leverage available supports from our community and York Region, as well as thinking differently about how we support those most in need, especially through the pandemic. We remain committed to working with our community and partners to explore employment, health supports, and to expand existing pathways into housing.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, we have housed and served individuals experiencing homelessness in community-based transitional housing including a range of vulnerable populations such as seniors, families, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth. We are excited to be collaborating with York Region on a new eighteen (18) unit transitional housing building in East Gwillimbury that will open its doors this summer.<\/p>\n

We would like to thank the community and our partners for their support which allows us to continue doing critical work and together shine a light on the exceptional challenges facing the most vulnerable.<\/p>\n
