The first of the annual run events organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association raised funds Sunday, Oct. 2 for the Newmarket Food Pantry and Blue Door<\/strong><\/div>\n

Hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages took to the trail at Fairy Lake Park Sunday for the inaugural Run for Newmarket organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) in support of the Newmarket Food Pantry and Blue Door.<\/p>\n

While the national Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has been organizing charity runs for almost two decades, it was a first for the Newmarket chapter\u2014\u00a0and it was a rousing success, according to Salman Ahmad,\u00a0vice-president of Ahmadiyya\u00a0Muslim Youth Association, Newmarket chapter.<\/p>\n

The Mercy 4 Mankind event aimed to raise $10,000 \u2014 York Regional Police donated $5,000 alone, Ahmad said \u2014 with all proceeds going to the two charities selected for the inaugural run.<\/p>\n

The Newmarket Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, whose members range from 16 to 40, has been involved in a number of community initiatives over the past several years, including blood donor drives, food drives, and other fundraising events, Ahmad said.<\/p>\n

Their ongoing blood drive, March to Save Lives, continues with a clinic coming up this fall at the Newmarket Community Centre, he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
