The walk will raise money for Blue Door and its Out of the Cold program<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n

After a two-year hiatus, the Blue Door Shelter’s Coldest Night of the Year is back in 2023.<\/p>\n

Blue Door will be hosting the event at the Toronto Montessori School in Richmond Hill\u00a0starting at 4 p.m.\u00a0Feb. 25.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the government continues to play a big part in preventing and ending homelessness, so does our community,\u201d Blue Door CEO Michael Braithwaite said. \u201cAn easy and fun way to be part of the solution is to take part in the national Coldest Night of the Year event in Richmond Hill, benefiting Blue Door and the thousands of our region\u2019s vulnerable we support each year.\u00a0Let\u2019s show the amazing strength of our community through this fun and impactful event.\u201d<\/p>\n

In York Region, homelessness is often hidden and out of sight. However, on any given night there are approximately 500 of our community members sleeping in tents or cars, couch surfing or on the streets \u2014 500 people without a safe place to call home at night.<\/p>\n

Individuals experiencing homelessness have been disproportionately impacted over the last few years as a result of the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Coldest Night of the Year is a fun, family-friendly fundraising walk inviting Canadians to step outside the warmth and comfort of their home to shine a light of welcome, compassion and inclusion in their communities.<\/p>\n

As Blue Door\u2019s signature fundraiser, Coldest Night of the Year \u2014 Richmond Hill is an imperative event as it allows Blue Door programs to continue to provide life-saving supports and services to our community\u2019s most vulnerable. Funds raised support urgent needs and Blue Door\u2019s Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold program, providing services to youth, adults, seniors and families experiencing homelessness and poverty in York Region.<\/p>\n

Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold is a collaborative, community-driven interfaith program that provides warm beds, meals, clothing, medical care, showers and much more to youth, adults and seniors experiencing homelessness during the harsh Canadian winter months.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
