Construct team aims to raise $10,000 to cover cost of supports key to trainees’ success<\/strong><\/p>\n

Construct is taking the plunge and raising money to provide employment, mental health and food support to vulnerable trainees facing homelessness.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday April 4, Blue Door\u2019s Construct team will take the plunge \u2014 that is, if they reach their goal.<\/p>\n

Construct will participate in the first Polar Plunge in support of its trainees. Staff will fundraise to provide supports including apprenticeship enrolment fees, transportation, and food to reduce barriers and support trainees in finding a meaningful career in the skilled trades. This year, Construct aims to raise $10,000 to cover the cost of supports that are key to a trainees’ success.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we reach our goal, Construct would be able to provide 20 graduates with seat fees to start their year one apprenticeship, 25 trainees with eight weeks of food support, or 85 trainees access to psychotherapy and mental health supports. Our ability to offer this support to our trainees enables us to work with everyone’s unique needs, to meet them where they are at and ensure we can support them in the best way possible,\u201d said Rudi Genovese, director, Social Enterprise.<\/p>\n

Construct is an employment social enterprise by Blue Door that provides support for vulnerable and at-risk youth and adults participating in an eight-week rapid skills training, which prepares trainees for a career in the skilled trades. Support ranges from first aid certification to employability training, connections to employers, and health supports.<\/p>\n

In partnership with the YMCA, LiUNA Local 506 Training Centre, and Humber College, trainees are provided with resources and support to receive the training, certifications, and support needed to secure a career in the trades.<\/p>\n

As York Region\u2019s largest emergency housing provider, Blue Door\u2019s goal is to offer immediate support for those experiencing homelessness and to create and implement innovative solutions to homelessness. Since launching in 2020, Construct has been internationally recognized as a leader in the construction industry. In just over two years, Construct helped more than 230 trainees graduate from the program.<\/p>\n
