The Region of Durham said it is investing in non-profit organizations that help prevent and\/or reduce poverty for Durham Region residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The almost $500,000 investment comes via the Thriving Communities Fund, which supports programs and services that address food security, mental health, and addictions; meet the needs of vulnerable populations, such as seniors and children; and improves local employment opportunities, said a region statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thriving Communities Fund also supports capacity building efforts in the non-profit sector, such as the development of strategic plans and fundraising strategies that will help sustain non-profit organizations for the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following organizations have been awarded funding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Community Development Council Durham<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Feed the Need in Durham<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Durham Community Action Group<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Back Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. AIDS Committee of Durham Region<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Bowmanville Older Adults Association<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Girls Inc. Durham<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Brock Community Food Bank<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Christian Faith Outreach Centre<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Redemption House of Recovery<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Durham Workforce Authority<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
